Google Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of search engine Google, has headed up a $1m round of seed funding for online content start-up DJZ, a US-based website designed to aggregate news and media content centred around DJs and electronic dance music.
Founder Seth Goldstein is also chief executive officer at Turntable.fm, a social media website that allows users to share music. Turntable.fm gained a $7m round of funding in 2011.
Other investors in DJZ are: Troy Carter, who is chief executive and chairman of Coalition Media Group, Index Ventures, a corporate venturing unit that specializes in information technology and life sciences companies, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a venture capital firm that has invested in the early stages of Amazon, AOL and Google, True Ventures, a venture capital firm that invest in early stage technology startups and Advancit Capital, an early stage investment firm focused on media, entertainment and technology companies.
DJZ’s mobile app, website and Youtube channel will officially launch on Halloween 2012.
