US-based game publisher Rumble closed its series A funding round on Thursday, raising $15m from backers including corporate venturing unit Google Ventures.
Venture capital firm Khosla Ventures co-led the round, which also saw participation from Rumble’s seed investors.
These include Rick Thompson, the founder of Playdom, as well as Mark Spenner, David O’Connor and John Yoo, all of whom have held prominent roles at game companies such as Zynga and Electronic Arts. Rumble’s seed round raised $2m, according to news provider the Wall Street Journal.
Rumble is looking to join the mass of game publishers developing free-to-play games accessible through mobile devices and social networking sites. Rumble is also planning to provide a platform for independent developers to publish their own games.
Karim Faris, partner at Google Ventures, said:"The gaming industry is undergoing a massive online transition and Rumble has a strong vision and team to deliver a unique blend of instantly accessible, high quality games that can be played anywhere. We’re looking forward to helping them grow the business."
