Google X spinout Flux raises $8m series A

US-based Flux, a Google-backed building and construction collaborative design software provider, has secured $8m in series A funding in a round led by venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson with participation from corporate venturing unit Google Ventures.

DFJ and Google were joined in the round by venture capital firms Andreessen Horowitz and Borealis Ventures.

Flux aims to promote sustainable design by providing design tools that help to reduce the environmental footprint of architecture and to enable the growing global demand for durable houses.

Founded in 2012 Flux, launched out of Google X’s Moonshot Factory, a research laboratory where inventors and engineers are encouraged to use failure as a mean of innovative problem solving. Flux will continue testing its software, which is planned to be available for public use by early 2015.
