GV gets in Swing for $15m series B

Swing Education, a US-based on-demand marketplace for substitute teachers, has received $15m in a series B round co-led by GV, a corporate venturing subsidiary of internet and technology group Alphabet.

Education-focused venture capital firm Owl Ventures co-led the round, with participation from existing backers Social Capital, Kapor Capital, Moment Ventures, Ulu Ventures, Red House Education and Edovate Capital.

Founded in 2015, Swing Education has built an online platform that connects qualified educators to schools in the US states of California, New Jersey and the District of Columbia for short-term roles. It will use the funding to expand into new markets.

GV partner Laura Melahn said: “Swing Education makes it easier for schools to find qualified substitute teachers, and gives subs more opportunity to find employment.

“The company has strong traction in major school districts, and is well positioned to help close temporary coverage gaps.”
