GVR Podcast: Applied Ventures’ approach to CVC 2.0

Anand Kamannavar Applied Ventures

Technology can only get as advanced as the materials that make it up, and things are moving fast.

Anand Kamannavar, the global head of advanced materials engineering company Applied Materials’ CVC unit, Applied Ventures, joined the Global Venturing Review podcast to talk about their approach to CVC 2.0 and the opportunities and challenges of investing in a wide range of material technologies including energy, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, life sciences, AI and big data, and more.

Running an expansive global portfolio when the whole team is based in California is a considerable challenge – Kamannavar talks about how they handle that as well as how having been around for so long helps the CVC see opportunities before others do.

Unlike most CVCs, Applied Ventures is willing to invest in public companies, which Kamannavar says can be a good play even if it doesn’t come under what’s traditionally seen as a VC remit.
