Hassid rejoins Kashyap at Microsoft

Mony Hassid (pictured), managing director of Qualcomm Ventures in Israel, has left to rejoin his former boss at Microsoft.

Hassid is now general manager and MD at Microsoft Ventures in Israel reporting to Nagraj Kashyap, former head of Qualcomm Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of the eponymous chip maker, until earlier this year before he was recruited to kickstart the US-listed software supplier’s corporate venturing programme.

Israel is Microsoft Ventures’ first international office outside of the US.

Quinn Li, head of Qualcomm Ventures, said: “We will continue to focus on Israel as well as other regions around the world.”

Hassid’s Israel portfolio at Qualcomm, and previously for Motorola Ventures, had included 12 exits (eight of which for at least $100m each) over the past dozen years. His most recent exits included the sale of data virtualization provider Ravello Systems to Oracle this year for a reported $500m and last year’s purchase of Panoramic Power by Direct Energy (through its parent, Centrica,) for a reported $60m and the flotation of Mobileye, which is creating software for driverless cars, and which raised $890m in its initial public offering in the US.
