Headspace clears $36m

Headspace, a US-based meditation and mindfulness app developer backed by talent agency William Morris Endeavor (WME) and media companies Chernin Group and Broadway Video, has raised $36m, VentureBeat reported on Monday.

Growth equity firm Spectrum Equity led the round, but the identity of the other participants has not been revealed.

Headspace initially put on events based on meditation and mindfulness techniques taught by company founder Andy Puddicombe, before expanding its service to an online platform that includes a guided meditation subscription service along with text and video content.

The round increased Headspace’s overall funding to approximately $76m since it was founded in the UK in 2010, according to media reports and regulatory filings.

Chernin Group led a $34m round in 2015 that included Broadway Video’s corporate venturing unit Broadway Video Ventures, WME, Advancit Capital, Allen & Company, Breyer Capital, Deerfield Management, Freelands Ventures and angel investors including actor Jared Leto.
