HealthCare.com mends $18m series B

US-based health insurance portal HealthCare.com has received $18m in a series B round led by Second Alpha Partners that featured insurance group Axis Capital and financial services firm CNO Financial Group.

Founded in 2014, HealthCare.com has built an online portal where customers can compare healthcare insurance plans from more than 13,000 providers and receive recommendations tailored to their budget, preferences and health requirements.

The marketplace lists products geared towards both enterprises and individuals and includes policies covered by the US government programs Medicare and the Affordable Healthcare Act.

The cash will support HealthCare.com’s expansion, including product development and marketing as well as enhancements in consumer experience, technology, engineering and data science.

HealthCare.com has now accrued $27.3m in funding altogether, following a $7.5m series A round in 2014 co-led by angel investors Jeffery Boyd and Robert Mylod that was later extended to $9.3m according to a 2015 regulatory filing.

The company’s other investors include PeopleFund, an investment firm focused on the technology, internet and media spaces.
