Hearst Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of the eponymous US-based media group, has restructured after the departure of its president, putting Kenneth Bronfin and Scott English in charge and building out its international network.
George Kliavkoff left Hearst, where he was president of its corporate venturing fund Hearst Ventures, last week to take up a CEO role at US-based virtual reality content producer Jaunt.
Bronfin, senior managing director at Hearst Ventures since January 2013, said by email: “We will not hire a new president at Hearst Ventures.
Scott English (managing director since 1995) and I will oversee the group. [The] only other recent change in the group is we hired Gil Canaani (formerly of Canaan) to run our Israeli investment team. That rounds out our international team for now – with Megumi Ikeda running UK/London, and Katie Hu running China.”
Hu and Ikeda joined Hearst Ventures in 2014, while Canaani came aboard this month having left Canaan in early 2015.
Hearst’s deals this year include Drone Racing League and Spartan Race, but Bronfin said: “We have not actively pursued VR – although we have monitored the field closely in recently years.”
