China based smart router producer HiWiFi has received $10m in series A financing from Taiwan-based semiconductor manufacturer Mediatek and venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
Founded in early 2013, HiWiFi produces open platform wireless routers that run in-house custom firmware able to help block advertisements, speed up app store downloads and circumvent Chinese government restrictions on US-based internet services such as Facebook, YouTube and the Google Play appstore.
HiWiFi plans to use the funding to improve its technology base and build up its smart router infrastructure.
In September 2013, the company received $10m in a series A round from VC firms Innovation Works and GGV Capital.
