Homeis, a US-based, migrant-focused social media platform developer backed by electronics producer Samsung and over-the-top media company Chernin Group, secured $12m in series A funding on Tuesday.
Venture capital firms Canaan and Spark Capital co-led the round, which boosted the startup’s overall funding to $16m.
Founded in 2017, Homeis operates an online platform that helps migrants and immigrants adapt to new surroundings, putting them in touch with each other and helping them to discover jobs, relationships and social events.
The offering is popular with Israeli, French and Indian communities in the US, and the series A funding will help the company expand its offering to new communities, with Mexican and Latino groups in the US a particular priority.
Ran Harnevo, co-founder and chief executive of Homeis, said: “Empowering immigrants is a personal mission, one which we believe is timely and important.
“We are thrilled to have the support of our investors and are committed to supporting immigrants wherever they are, making technology work for them, and fulfilling their very special needs.”
Chernin Group joined Samsung subsidiary Samsung Next, Spark Capital, Canaan and angel investors including Adam Singolda and Tim Armstrong to provide $4m of seed capital for Homeis which was revealed when the startup emerged from stealth in late 2017.
