US-based child transportation service HopSkipDrive has completed a $10.2m series A round backed by BBG Ventures, the female-focused fund overseen by media company AOL, TechCrunch has reported.
Venture capital firms FirstMark Capital and UpFront Ventures co-led the round, which included fellow VC firms Greycroft Partners and Pritzker Group Venture Capital, and incubator and seed fund 1776.
HopSkipDrive runs a service that lets parents organise scheduled, carpooled rides that can transport their children to and from school and activities. Drivers are thoroughly vetted and required to undergo fingerprinting and vehicle inspections.
The funds will support hiring, as the Los Angeles-headquartered company looks to enhance product development and expand to new urban centres.
The startup secured $3.9m in a seed round led by Upfront Ventures that included including BBG Ventures and FirstMark Capital. The round was closed in July 2015, just four months after the service was launched.
