US-based digital medicine prescription platform Xealth has raised $8.5m in a seed round led by DFJ that included healthcare providers Providence Health & Services, UPMC, Hennepin Health and Froedtert Health.
Xealth has developed a platform that lets doctors prescribe apps and devices to patients, charging hospitals licensing and volume usage fees. It was incubated at Providence’s digital innovation program for 18 months before spinning out in January this year.
The digital services available through Xealth include articles, videos, surveys, apps that help patients manage their diabetes, programs for cancer care survivorship, and medical devices like glucometers and sleep apnea machines.
Prior to exploring the healthcare sector, Xealth CEO and founder Mike McSherry co-founded and sold Swype, a predictive text technology developer, to Nuance in 2011 for $100m.
