US-based hybrid cloud software provider Platform9 has secured $22m in a series C round that included enterprise software producer Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).
Canvas Ventures led the round, which also featured fellow venture capital firms Redpoint Ventures and Menlo Ventures, both of which had previously taken part in Platform9’s $10m series B round in 2015. Redpoint had provided it with $4.5m in series A capital the year before.
Founded in 2013, Platform9 has developed an open-source software platform that enterprises use to create and manage hybrid clouds across a range of platforms, using open-source frameworks like Kubernetes, OpenStack and Fission.
The company manages a total of more than 200 clouds for more than 60 enterprise customers. The funding will be used by Platform9 to scale its engineering capabilities and expand its product, sales and marketing teams.
Sirish Raghuram, chief executive of Platform9, said: “Enterprises today are racing to adopt the cloud, but struggle with managing numerous infrastructure silos, ranging from legacy virtualised data centres to pockets of public cloud deployments.
“With our novel [software-as-a-service] approach to complex cloud frameworks, we enable infrastructure anywhere to be easily managed using industry-leading open-source frameworks such as Kubernetes and OpenStack.”
