Human API zooms to $20m

Samsung Ventures, a corporate venturing subsidiary of consumer electronics manufacturer Samsung, has led a series C round for US-based healthcare data management platform Human API sized above $20m, VentureBeat reported yesterday.

Insurance providers Allianz, Scor Global, CNO Financial Group and Guardian Life also took part in the round – the first two through Allianz Life Ventures and Scor Life and Health Ventures – along with venture capital firms BlueRun Ventures and Moneta VC.

Human API provides software that quantifies health data into a standardised format that helps users discover and share their personal data with other businesses so they can get more extensive services.

The funding will go to product development activities focusing on areas like insurance risk assessment as well as recruitment for clinical trials, chronic disease and population health management, patient monitoring and product design.

Guardian Life and Scor Life and Health Ventures joined existing backers BlueRun Ventures and SciFi VC to provide $10m in series B funding for Human API in February 2019, two years after it received $6.6m in its series A round. Andreessen Horowitz is among its earlier backers.
