Humana’s Burr to hang with Mr Cooper

Elizabeth “Busy” Burr, formerly US-based health insurance provider Humana’s chief innovation officer (CIO) and vice-president of healthcare trend, joined mortgage lender Mr Cooper last month.

Humana hired Burr in 2015 to set up its Silicon Valley office and its corporate venturing subsidiary, Humana Health Ventures. She oversaw Humana Health Ventures’ healthcare venturing and innovation activities and was nominated to Global Corporate Venturing’s Powerlist in 2017 and 2018.

The unit evolved from predecessor Humana Health Innovation, which had been formed in early 2014. The unit had included Louisville Innovation Centre, which had been led by former senior vice-president and CIO Christopher Kay.

Prior to Burr’s departure in November 2018, the unit participated in a $26m round for healthcare management software producer ClearData and contributed to a $100m series E round for primary care provider Iora Health six months earlier.

Mr Cooper has appointed Burr to its board of directors, and her new role will involve her “working on a startup in the innovation and venturing space,” she told GCV.

Jay Bray, chairman and chief executive of Mr Cooper, said: “As the Mr Cooper Group business grows, Busy’s experience in innovation and technology, including customer-centric platforms and the financial services industry, are invaluable to our company.

“We are excited to welcome Busy to the Mr Cooper team as we work to deliver more value to shareholders, customers and team members.”

Burr added: “I am honoured to join Mr Cooper and excited to play a role in helping the company create a transformational customer experience in the home loan industry.

“Mr Cooper has an opportunity to be a leading innovator, and I look forward to working with the team as they continue to develop new ways to support homeowners.”
