Hungry consumes $20m in series B round

Hungry, the US-based catering services marketplace backed by financial media company The Motley Fool, has secured $20m in series B funding, Crunchbase News has reported.

The round was co-led by venture capital firm Evolution VC Partners and private investor Walter Robb, and also featured individuals including actor Kevin Hart and rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z.

Founded in 2016, Hungry operates an online marketplace where businesses can locate vetted chefs to cook at their offices or cater events. For the former option, Hungry handles delivery and logistics on the client’s behalf through a network of couriers.

The company raised the cash at a pre-money valuation of more than $100m, it told TechCrunch. It intends to use the money to expand into new US cities.

The Motley Fool co-led Hungry’s $8m series A round in April 2019 with Sands Capital Ventures through its Motley Fool Ventures vehicle. Marcy Venture Partners, Private Access Network and James Madison Innovations also took part in the round, along with various angel investors.

Hungry closed a $3m seed round featuring Timeless Capital and private investor Bob Hisaoka in April 2018, adding $1.5m from Hisaoka, Ahisma Investment, GP Ventures, OnRamp Fund and various individuals two months later.
