Huumo gets a hoist at Fortum

Mikko Huumo has been promoted from startup investments and acquisitions manager to head of external venturing at Finland-based energy group Fortum.

Huumo had spent about two and a half years in the position after nearly four years at Fortum as manager for research and development growth projects. His board roles at Fortum had included wave power producer AW-Energy and Stereoscape, a developer of virtual reality technology for industrial businesses.

In December 2018, Fortum agreed to commit $170m to Valo Ventures, a venture capital firm founded by Scott Tierney, a co-founder of CapitalG, the corporate VC subsidiary of internet and technology conglomerate Alphabet formerly known as Google Capital.

Founded in 2018, Valo Ventures is focused on investing in early and growth-stage technology startups that could bring about long-term social, economic and environmental benefits.
