US-based computing company IBM said finalists of its SmartCamp programme for promising entrepreneurial companies have raised more than $25m in about nine months, as it listed some of this year’s crop of notable young companies.
IBM said four finalists of last year’s competition, the first conducted by the technology company, had raised the following sums since taking part (Global Corporate Venturing also researched the venture backers involved): US-based parking space technology company Streetline ($15m, venture firms Fontinalis Partners, RockPort Capital and Sutter Hill Ventures); web-based healthcare company CareCloud ($5m, unnamed angels), energy consumption measuring company Panoramic Power ($4.8m, corporate venturing units Qualcomm Ventures and the Israel Electric Company, venture firms Israel Cleantech and Greylock Partners, and Alexander Schneider) and US and Nigeria-based anti-counterfeiting company Sproxil ($1.8m, non-profit venture firm Acumen Fund).
This year’s winners have included India-based business intelligence company ConnectM (backed by communications company Sasken and corporate venturing unit IDG Ventures), US-based toxin identification company Secure Waters, Spain-based traffic management company Bitcarrier and US-based software company Localytics.
The company is hosting its next SmartCamp event on September 21 in Tel Aviv, Israel, and it is subsequently hosting: SmartCamp Istanbul (October 4 and October 5), SmartCamp Shanghai (October 27 to October 28), SmartCamp Rio (November 10 to November 11) and SmartCamp London (November 16 to November 18).
