ICL targets food tech and agtech

Israel-headquartered specialty minerals and chemicals company ICL launched its ICL Planet Startup Hub innovation platform last week.

The programme, which will provide investment as well as mentoring, will target early to growth-stage startups in the food tech and agriculture tech space.

The initiative is premised on addressing critical global needs and making a positive and sustainable environmental impact.

ICL Planet Startup Hub has already made its first investment – Protera, a France-based sustainable proteins developer. ICL contributed to a series A round together with baked goods producer Grupo Bimbo and venture firm Sofinnova Partners.

Rado Sporka, vice president of food specialties commercial business for ICL, said: “Protera is addressing critical unmet needs and food tech opportunities, which are complementary and synergistic with ICL’s food specialties growth strategy.”
