Tapatalk, the US-based creator of a smartphone app that allows users to discuss their interests across multiple internet communities from one location, has closed a $5.8m seed round with investment from IDG Capital Partners, the venture capital firm affiliated to media company IDG.
IDG was joined in the round by venture capital fund Floodgate. Startup accelerator Murkerlab invested an undisclosed amount in the company in January 2014. Tapatalk plans to use the investment to improve its service.
Tapatalk said in a blog post: “Our funding lets us bring aboard more forums, expand internationally, and continuously improve the user experience.
“We are tremendously grateful to be able to continue building something we love. With our new partners, we look forward to making Tapatalk the best it has ever been, and not only grow an engaging community that will flourish, but one that you’ll want to revisit again and again.”
