Royole, a China-based developer of flexible LED display technology, has closed a RMB 1.1bn ($172m) series C round featuring IDG Capital Partners, media company International Data Group’s local corporate venturing affiliate.
Other investors in the round included Shenzhen Capital Group, Shenzhen Green Pine Capital Partners, Alpha Wealth Finance, and Jack and Fischer Investment, according to China Money Network, which cited local media reports.
Royole’s technology revolves around what it claims is the world’s thinnest full-colour flexible display. The material, which is bendable and rollable, is only 0.001mm and can be integrated with a smartphone.
In the longer term Royole plans to extend the technology to the consumer electronics, home IT, automotive, computing, instrumentation, networking, solar, peripherals, storage and telecommunications industries.
Founded in 2013, Royole has not disclosed details of any previous funding. The company maintains premises in Silicon Valley in California, Hong Kong and Shenzhen in China.
