IDG Ventures India backs Forus Health

The Indian corporate venturing unit of US-based media company International Data Group has helped India-based medical technology company Forus Health raise $5m.

IDG Ventures India was joined in the series A round by venture firm Accel Partners. Unitus Capital was sole advisor to Forus on the deal.

Forus’ main product 3nethra, is a portable which can be used by "a minimally trained technician" to detect cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retina, refraction and cornea problems – which cause 90% of avoidable blindness in India, the company said.

Ranjith Menon, vice president of IDG Ventures India, said: "We are always interested in platform technologies that can deliver healthcare cost effectively. The pre-screening technology developed by Forus holds tremendous potential and will help address issues relating to avoidable blindness globally."
