IndianRoots to grow with $5m

India-based e-commerce company IndianRoots.com secured Rs 320m ($5m) in a series C including diversified conglomerate KJS Group on Wednesday, according to the Economic Times.

Launched in 2013 as a subsidiary of commercial broadcasting company NDTV, IndianRoots operates a curated online shop featuring more than 100 designers and 700 brands. It is incorporated as NDTV Ethnic Retail.

IndianRoots raised $5m in series B funding in September 2014 from satellite TV broadcasting company Astro Malaysia.

NDTV subsidiary NDTV Lifestyle Holdings invested $3m in the company’s series A round earlier in 2014, after Rathi Strategic Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of conglomerate Rathi Group, had provided Rs 100m in seed funding.

Astro Malaysia’s parent company, Astro All Asia Network, holds a 49% in NDTV Lifestyle Holdings.

The series C funding will be used to expand IndianRoots’ logistics and delivery capabilities. The company hopes to be the market leader for Indian fashion within the next year.
