Instana receives $6m green light

IT consulting firm Codecentric has taken part in a $6m series A round for its spinout Instana, a US-based data and IT monitoring system provider.

Venture capital firm Target Partners led the round, which will help Instana continue its work assessing the operational health of its clients’ systems and applications.

Instana was spun out in April 2015 by chief executive Mirko Novakovic, chief operating officer Pete Abrams, vice president of engineering Fabian Lange and chief technology officer Pavlo Baron.

Instana uses a knowledge base and machine learning to offer data analytics that help IT teams bring their systems to optimum health and performance. The platform provides features such as predicting downtime or spotting system interdependencies.

The company has launched a virtual development operations assistant, called Stan, which helps identify the precise root causes of issues within applications and advises on possible repair or remediation.

Rainer Vehns, co-founder of Codecentric, said: “Thanks to next generation software architectures, large cloud providers such as Amazon and Google are reinventing the way in which IT services can be delivered.

“Instana’s concept to dynamically discover and model these modern architectures brings a new approach to monitoring such environments.”
