Intel helps clear $25m round for DustPhotonics

Semiconductor and data technology provider Intel’s corporate venturing arm, Intel Capital, has led a $25m series B round for Israel-based optical module producer DustPhotonics.

Venture capital firm WRVI Capital also participated in the round, as did DustPhotonics chairman and existing investor Avigdor Willenz. The company has not disclosed details of any earlier funding.

Founded in 2017, DustPhotonics provides optical transceivers and cables that help to connect systems in data centres and facilitate high-performance computing. It intends to use the series B cash to strengthen its place in the market and grow its operations.

Ben Rubovitch, DustPhotonics’ co-founder and chief executive, had been a very-large-scale integration (VLSI) engineer at Intel between 2003 and 2007. He said: “We are honoured to have Intel Capital lead this round, which will help accelerate our vision of next generation optical connectivity.

“Our optical transceiver products address the key and challenging requirements for hyperscale applications, and we will also leverage our electro-optic technology in high-density, future architectures.”
