Taiwan-based semiconductor maker Aspeed has become the latest company to obtain funding from Intel Capital, the US-based semiconductor conglomerate’s corporate venturing unit investing an undisclosed amount.
Aspeed is only the most recent of a series of Asia-based fabless semiconductor companies to receive financing from Intel Capital, with the China-based BCD, Chipsbrand, Legend Silicon among the recipients of Intel’s investment.
Established in November 2004, Aspeed specialises in system-on-chip (SoC) semiconductors, in which every component of a computer is integrated on to a single chip.
Aspeed will use the capital to expand its research and development department as well as extending its marketing for cloud computing services, an area in which it plans to expand in the future.
