Intel Capital puts $38m into 12 startups

Intel Capital, the corporate venturing arm of semiconductor technology producer Intel, announced investments in 12 startups totalling $38m at the annual Intel Capital Global Summit yesterday.

The individual amounts provided by the unit were not revealed, but the largest round disclosed by one of the companies was the $33.5m raised by Paxata, creator of a US-based self-service business information platform, in its fourth funding round, which was led by Intel Capital.

InContext Solutions, a US-based developer of virtual reality technology for retailers and manufacturers, has announced a $15.2m round co-led by Intel Capital and Beringea, while France-based neuromorphic vision technology company Chronocam has secured $15.2m in series B funding.

Intel Capital led a $9m round for Canada-based health analytics startup Kinduct Technologies and an $8m round for K4Connect, a US-based developer of technology that helps the elderly and disabled.

Other companies to have picked up funding as part of the drive include US-based robotics developers Perrone Robotics and Embodied, China-based smart city technology developer Eazytec, China-based wifi device producer Grand Chip Microelectronics, US-based data insulation software provider StealthMine, US-based wireless sensing platform developer CubeWorks and US-based immersive audio software startup Dysonics.

In addition to the 12 investments that made up the $38m, US-based system-on-chip technology developer Netspeed Systems closed a $10 series C round led by Intel Capital that included semiconductor supplier SK Hynix and Walden-Riverwood Ventures.
