Rogue Wave Software, a supplier of software development tools, has acquired US-based app development technology provider Zend Technologies, giving an exit to semiconductor manufacturer Intel’s corporate venturing unit, Intel Capital.
Founded in 1999, Zend offers development and deployment technology for web and mobile applications created in the PHP programming language. Rogue Wave is buying the company to extend its own range of services. The amount it is paying has not been revealed.
The company had raised more than $50m, including $9m in a 2010 series E round led by 83 North (then known as Greylock Partners) that included Intel Capital, Azure Capital Partners, Index Ventures, Walden and SAP Ventures, at that time a subsidiary of enterprise software company SAP.
Intel Capital, SAP Ventures, Azure Capital, Index Ventures, Platinum Venture Capital and Walden Israel Venture Capital had previously funded a $20m series D round in 2006.
Other investors included Viola Private Equity, which added another $7m on to the series E round in 2011, and TriplePoint Capital.
