US-based Joyent, a cloud computing company, has raised $15m in a series E round featuring Intel Capital, the corporate venturing arm of semiconductor company Intel.
Diversified holding company Orascom TMT Investments, LGI Ventures, a subsidiary of cable and phone service provider Liberty Global, and venture capital firms El Dorado Ventures and Epic Ventures were also involved.
Joyent is a cloud infrastructure and big data analytics company that runs Docker, a container-based infrastructure software platform. The funding is set to accelerate the development of Docker’s business as well as new products and services
Scott Hammond, chief executive of Joyent, said: “This recent round of funding will enable us to aggressively build out our integration and support for Docker.”
The latest capital brings the total of debt and equity raised by the company to $124.5m, according to press reports and SEC filings.
Joyent closed a $85m series D round in 2012 from Intel Capital, Liberty Global, Telefonica Digital, a subsidiary of telecommunications firm Telefonica, Weather Investments, which was Orascom TMT’s former moniker, El Dorado Capital, Epic Ventures and Greycroft Partners.
Intel has backed Joyent since the company’s $4m series A round in 2009.
