Intuition Robotics, the Israel-based developer of a companion robot for the elderly, received an undisclosed amount of funding today from robotics technology provider iRobot and crowdfunding platform OurCrowd.
The amount provided by iRobot and OurCrowd was not revealed, but Intuition said the investment increased its overall financing to $6m across various fundraising instruments.
Intuition is working on a social companion robot called Elli•Q that will offer a range of tools including video chat, online games and social media in order to keep elderly users engaged and connecting them to stimulating online content. It emerged from stealth last month.
The company’s existing investors include Bloomberg Beta, the early-stage investment arm of media and data firm Bloomberg, as well as venture capital fund Terra Venture Partners, which led its seed round, and VC firm Maniv Mobility.
Hanns Anders, director at iRobot’s corporate venturing subsdisiary iRobot Ventures, said: “iRobot has been a long-time proponent of the development of robotics technologies to support the world’s aging population.
“The advances being made by Intuition Robotics are critically important to keeping this important population active and engaged.”
