Sliver.tv, a US-based virtual reality (VR) platform aimed at eSports backed by a range of corporates, has received $16m in funding from unnamed investors, according to a regulatory filing.
Founded in 2015, Sliver has developed a virtual reality platform that provides an immersive experience to eSports audiences. The platform records more than a dozen live professional tournaments at any given moment, automatically generating highlight reels within a day.
Sliver previously received $6.2m in seed funding in August 2016 from a consortium of investors that included mobile game companies Gree and Colopl, as well as CAA Ventures and Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, respective corporate venturing units for talent agency Creative Artists Agency and media conglomerate Bertelsmann.
DCM Ventures, Sierra Ventures, Greycroft Partners, Advancit Capital, Sparklan Capital, Green Pine Capital Partners and the Venture Reality Fund also participated in the seed round.
Mitch Liu, founder and chief executive of Sliver.tv, said at the time of the seed round: “We are focused on the intersection between today’s 250 million e-sports viewers and the emerging VR market.
“We recognised early on that the existing e-sports viewing approach from the player’s point-of-view is not necessarily the best perspective for the audience. Our vision is to transform the eSports spectator experience forever.”
