Investors decode 1Password’s $100m series B

1Password, a Canada-based password management service backed by enterprise messaging software producer Slack, has secured $100m in series B funding at a $2bn post-money valuation.

Venture capital firm Accel led the round, which also featured Sound Ventures, Skip Capital and private investors including Slack founder Stewart Butterfield, Tobias Lutke, Harley Finkelstein, Anthony Casalena, Mike Cannon-Brookes, Scott Farquhar, Kevin Hartz, Gerhard Eschelbeck and Robert Vis.

Founded in 2005, 1Password has built an online platform that helps create and manage passwords across websites and apps, and save business information such as documents and credit card details.

Jeff Shiner, chief executive of 1Password, said: “This investment from a range of industry luminaries signals a commitment to protecting businesses and families.

“We are already working closely with our experienced investors to accelerate growth into new areas, including secrets management, as we help customers stay ahead of the neverending parade of threats.”

Slack Fund, a corporate venturing vehicle for Slack, had taken part in a $200m series A round for the company in late 2019 that was led by Accel and backed by WindrCo and angel investors including Farquhar, Cannon-Brookes and Jay Simons.
