Sure, a US-based personal insurance app developer backed by Kinzon Capital, the venture capital firm sponsored by conglomerate Fosun, has secured $6.3m in equity financing, according to a regulatory filing.
Founded in 2014, Sure has built an app that allows smartphone users to purchase a variety of insurance products including flights, baggage, weddings, pets and renters cover. Sure’s partners include insurance providers Chubb, Guy Carpenter, Marsh and Nationwide.
The filing, which indicates Sure aims to raise $8m in the round, did not disclose the identities of the participating investors but Alex Maffeo, a principal at private investment firm IA Capital, was named as a director. Global Corporate Venturing has contacted IA Capital to ask if the firm is an investor in Sure.
Fosun Kinzon Capital participated in Sure’s $2.6m seed round in May 2016, along with venture capital firms FF Venture Capital and Montage Ventures, after FF Venture Capital and VC firm OVP Venture Partners had taken part in a 2015 seed round that raised about $1.6m.
