Google-backed healthcare service Doctor on Demand has raised $21m in series A funding from Venrock, which led the round, Shasta Ventures, and Virgin founder Richard Branson.
US-based Doctor on Demand provides video calls with doctors, nurses and physicians in return for a $40 fee. It will use the new funding to expand its workforce and add new services. In future, video calls will be available on desktop computers, as well as smartphones and tablets.
Cable and telecommunications company Comcast has also announced that it will make the service, accessible in 46 US states, available to all its US employees.
The company previously raised $3m in a December 2013 seed round funded by Google Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of media company Google, Venrock, Shasta Ventures, Lerer Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, and angel investors.
