Investors prove they know About.me

About.me, a US-based online ‘business card’ style social platform backed by Google Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of Google, has raised $11m in its series B round.

Venture firm Foundry Group led the round, which also featured Bullpen capital and existing investors SoftTech VC, CrunchFund and True Ventures.

The latter three also invested in a $5.7m round in February 2013 alongside Google Ventures, SVA Capital and AOL Ventures, as founders Tony Conrad and Ryan Freitas bought the company back from internet service provider AOL.

AOL acquired About.me in December 2010 after it had raised $425,000 from backers including AOL Ventures and True Ventures.

“In the past few years, we have seen About.me users discover and connect with other like-minded individuals who they might not have encountered on other social networks,” said Tony Conrad, co-founder and CEO of About.me.

“Now our goal is to build on that existing experience by adding features that will give our users something more tangible to work with and a reason to come back and regularly interact with their About.me page. Foundry and all of our investors really understood our vision for the product.”

Brad Feld, managing director of Foundry Group, will also join About.me’s board of directors.
