VMware, a US-based security software company, has acquired Intel Capital-backed identity management business TriCipher for an undisclosed sum.
TriCipher said it had raised $12m in its third round of funding in January last year. Intel Capital, the corporate venturing division of US-listed semiconductor company Intel, was part of the round alongside venture capital firms ArrowPath Venture Capital, Trident Capital, RBC Technology Ventures, and Epic Ventures (formerly known as Wasatch Venture Fund).
The company’s second round in 2005 raised $10.1m, although news provider VentureBeat said there was also $15m of cash and equity raised in 2007.
The deal was VMware’s second of the day as it also bought VC-backed Integrien, an application and infrastructure performance analytics software company.
