JumpStart to funding

Media group Vivendi Universal (VU) Games has sold its Vivendi Universal Games educational software business, including its titles JumpStart, Mathblaster and others, to Knowledge Holdings, a company formed by venture capital (VC) firms and reportedly including publisher Random House’s corporate venturing unit.

VC firms Azure Capital Partners and Telesoft Partners, which has strategic partnerships with Bechtel, Deutsche Telekom T-Venture, Nexant, Salesforce, and Symphony Technology Group, were the disclosed investors in Knowledge, which has been renamed as Jumpstart. Data provider CB Insights said Random House Ventures also invested in the $26.8m round that closed in January, according to its regulatory filing (under Knowledge Holdings).

VU Games will continue global sales and distribution responsibilities for Knowledge Adventure titles.
