Spatial, the US-based creator of a 3D collaboration platform, has received $14m in a series A round co-led by Kakao Ventures, internet company Kakao’s corporate venturing arm.
The round was co-led by venture capital funds White Star Capital and iNovia Capital and included Baidu Ventures, LG Ventures and Samsung Next, subsidiaries of internet group Baidu and consumer electronics manufacturers LG and Samsung respectively.
Expa, Lerer Hippeau, Leaders Fund, Pine Ventures and angel investors Mark Pincus, Andy Hertzfeld and Mike Krieger rounded out the participants.
Founded in 2016, Spatial has created an online platform that enables users to collaborate with each other in a holographic 3D setting using lifelike avatars and exchanging images in mixed reality. The technology can be used across a range of 2D and 3D systems.
The company had previously raised $8m from Samsung Next, iNovia, Expa, Mark Pincus, Andy Hertzfeld and Joi Ito that was disclosed when it emerged from stealth in late 2018.
Jinha Lee, Spatial’s co-founder and chief product officer, said: “With this funding we are excited to carry on this tremendous momentum and continue to innovate our user experience until every organisation around the world can work together seamlessly without the need to travel.”
