Kaltura, a US and Israel-based open source video company backed by chip maker Intel’s corporate venturing unit, has raised $25m in its series D round.
Japan-based financial services groups Mitsui and Orix’s venture groups led the D round as new investors and to help the portfolio company expand into Asia (Apac).
Kenichi Kimura, executive president at Mitsui Global Investment, said: “We looked for our first investment opportunity in the EdTech [education technology] sector and were very interested in joining Kaltura, one of the most prominent players. That Kaltura is a leading provider beyond education – in media, enterprise, and government – makes this even more exciting for us. We are delighted to join Kaltura and help its expansion into the Apac region.”
In February last year, Kaltura raised $20m in its series C round from Intel Capital and venture capital firms Nexus Venture Partners, .406 Ventures and Avalon Ventures, and Silicon Valley Bank, having previously raised $14m.
For the latest round, Lisa Lambert, vice-president of Intel Capital and managing director of the software and services sector, said: “Kaltura has demonstrated impressive growth, with the company continuing to outpace the industry. We are delighted to continue backing this exciting company.”
