Google and Tencent-backed Kamcord, a US-based app that allows users to record and share mobile gameplay, has raised $7.1m in series A funding.
The round was led by Asia-focused venture capital group TransLink Capital, with participation from existing investors Innovation Works, XG Ventures and Mark Willamson. SV Angel and Japanese investors M&Y Growth Partners, DeNA and KLab and were also involved.
Kamcord was founded in 2012, and since then over 3 billion videos have been uploaded onto the platform. The funding will be used for its expansion into Asian markets.
Matt Zitzmann, Kamcord co-founder and chief executive, said: “In order to build a truly global platform for sharing and watching gameplay videos, we prioritised strengthening our presence in Asia. The partnerships we’ve formed with this round of funding will help us tremendously in that effort.”
Kamcord has now raised $9.6m in funding, including a $1.5m seed round in December 2012, which saw participation from Google Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of search engine Google, and a further $1m in seed funding in August 2013 from Tencent and Innovation Works (China).
