Education company Kaplan, the largest subsidiary of Graham Holdings Company, and accelerator Techstars have named the 12 education technology startups selected this year for the Kaplan EdTech Accelerator in New York.
The three-month programme will offer the participants mentorship and business development advice. The startups, excluding Grockit, will receive a $20,000 investment from Techstars and the option for a $150,000 convertible debt note from Kaplan.
Launched in 2013, the Kaplan accelerator is the first corporate-sponsored accelerator to focus on the edteach sector.
The 12 2014 participants are Branching Minds, ClassWallet, Cognotion, CreatorBox, Edvisor.io, Grockit, Lea(R)n, ReKode, RobotsLabs, SmartOn, Story to College and TuvaLabs. A demo day exhibiting the startups progress will take place on October 22.
The 2013 participants were Degreed, Flinja, Mathify, MentorMob, Modern Guild, Newsela, PanOpen, Ranku, Uvize and Verificient Technologies.They have jointly raised more than $15m in funding to date.
