Media group Washington Post’s Kaplan Early Learning Group has made a strategic investment of undisclosed size in ICreate to Educate, a US-based student technology company.
In June 2011, ICreate completed Kauffman Education Ventures Incubator’s four-month programme. ICreate was one of 23 companies selected to participate in the programme out of more than 1,000 applicants.
ICreate’s Stop-Action-Movies Animation lets students and teachers capture still images from a webcam that can be played back in movie form like a digital flip book.
Separately, Ellevation Education and Zulama raised an aggregate $1.7m.
Ellevation, a US-based software company for English language learners, raised $1.5m from LearnLaunch founder Eileen Rudden, venture capitalist Rick Burnes, entrepreneur and investor Josh Tolkoff, Adam Miller, the founder and CEO of Cornerstone on Demand, and NewSchools Venture Fund’s Seed Fund.
Zulama said it had raised more than $200,000 in its seed round.
