Kevin Rose is to cut back the hours spent in his position as a general partner at Google Ventures, Google’s corporate venturing unit, in order to help develop a new start-up called North Technologies, TechCrunch reported on Friday.
Rose joined Google in early 2012 after it acquired his mobile development lab Milk for $15m, and initially worked at the company’s social network, Google+, before moving to Google Ventures in May that year.
During his tenure at Google Ventures, Rose has led the unit’s investments into several portfolio companies including software company High Fidelity, education platform Clever and fitness app Fitstar.
Rose is going part-time in order to spend more time building up North Technologies, which will aim to develop a series of mobile and social apps. He will remain on the boards of the Google Ventures portfolio companies he is currently on and will continue to work with them as a partner.
Rose is also founder of internet companies Digg and Revision3 and an active angel investor, investing as an individual in internet companies including Twitter, Foursquare and Facebook.
