Kiala delivers for La Poste

Package delivery corporation UPS acquired Belgium-based ecommerce delivery service Kiala on 15th February, paying an undisclosed amount.

Founded in 2001, Kiala raised €26m ($37m) in a 2007 funding round led by Scottish Equity Partners. Additional investors in the company include XAnge Capital, a corporate venturing fund backed by French postal service La Poste, as well as insurance company AGF, venture capital firm Arts Alliance, private equity firm HarbourVest Partners, growth equity firm Iris Capital and investment firm Tempo Capital Partners.

The company’s service currently operates in five countries across western and central Europe, through 7,000 Kiala Points, from which customers can collect their deliveries and which can handle up to 145,000 parcels a day. UPS will use the acquisition to expand its business-to-consumer services in Europe.
