KidZui, the US-based web browser designed for use by children, has raised an additional $2m in equity, following on from an initial $4m series C round of funding announced in March 2010. This latest funding takes KidZui’s overall financing to $16m since its launch.
The funding, made up of $1m secured in the autumn of last year and a further $1m this spring, was provided by venture capital (VC) firms Mission Ventures, Maveron and Emergence Capital Partners.
Previous investors in KidZui include US-based educational publisher Scholastic, which contributed $1.5m in 2009, according to Scholastic’s 2010 annual report. VC firm First Round Capital and venture seed fund Rose Tech Ventures have also contributed in the past.
KidZui’s browser is designed for use by children and uses a child friendly interface in addition to tracking use and limiting access to previously screened websites. KidZui announced the funding at the same time as it announced the imminent launch of ZUI.com, a search engine designed for use by children ages 3 to 12.
