Mobile internet technology provider NewBornTown has led a $21m series A round for live video streaming platform Kitty Live, China Money Network reported on Friday.
Founded in July 2016, Kitty Live is a livestreaming platform used by celebrities to speak to and interact directly with fans. The startup claims its app has been downloaded more than 8 million times, with users in Thailand responsible for 3 million downloads.
Kitty Live is run by a Chinese management team but operates in Southeast Asia. It initially launched in Thailand and has since expanded into Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and the US.
NewBornTown, which develops mobile launchers, will help Kitty Live with its geographical expansion, offering distribution channel and research support as the company looks to enter Latin America, Japan, Korea, the Middle East and Russia.
