KLM and Schiphol see potential in Eye on Air

Eye on Air, a Netherlands-based aviation security company which has developed explosives detection technology, announced in November that it had received funding from the Mainport Innovation Fund, which is backed by Dutch airport company Schiphol Group, Netherlands flag carrier airline KLM, Delft University of Technology and Rabobank.

Eye on Air is working with Schiphol Airport and KLM to adapt its technology to the needs of airport and aviation security.

Ewout Maaskant, who joins the company as chief executive officer CEO), said: “The investment is a great vote of confidence in the Eye on Air team and in the technology. Eye on Air will use the investment to progress the development of its security system and to prepare for its commercial launch in 2015.”

Bram Ledeboer of Mainport Innovation Fund, said: “Eye on Air is a start-up company with promising technology and an experienced team which is committed to improving airport security. With our partners Schiphol and KLM Cargo in particular, we will support the company’s take-off and help it become a technology leader in the aviation security space”.

Jos Nijhuis, CEO of Schiphol Group, said: “Schiphol is at the forefront of working with innovators, such as Eye on Air, on the deployment and development of new technologies to address key challenges.”

Erik Swelheim, CFO of KLM: “Eye on Air’s technology has great potential for our security operations. Authorities worldwide are increasingly demanding and keep raising the requirements for airport and aviation security.”

Eye on Air was founded by two scientists from the University of Twente.
