Knowledgehook picks up series A funding

Knowledgehook, the Canada-based developer of an online mathematics learning platform, has completed a C$20m ($15.2m) series A round featuring educational publisher Nelson Education.

The round was led by an undisclosed education technology-focused fund and included Alexandria Corp, a subsidiary of private equity firm Mesoamerica, as well as venture capital funds Ideal Ventures and Nicoya Ventures.

Founded in 2014, Knowledgehook has built an online platform that uses artificial intelligence to offer personalised assessment of maths students in order to discover gaps between classroom and home learning.

Nelson’s investment came two years after it incorporated Knowledgehook’s Instructional Guidance System into its digital learning system, Edwin. The technology is used in some 100,000 schools and the company is considering expanding it into other subjects.

Travis Ratnam, Knowledgehook ‘s co-founder and CEO, said: “We have received growing interest for our technology and expertise to be applied to other K-12 subjects and we look forward to expanding our solution to empower more educators and support the learning of students to become the problem-solvers of tomorrow”

Aadya Capital had led a $1m seed round for the company in 2016 that also featured North Point Ventures and Steve Case, co-founder of internet company AOL.
