Labster lasers in on $21m

Denmark-based laboratory training simulator developer Labster has raised $21m in a series B round that included Swisscom Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of telecommunications firm Swisscom.

The round was led by venture capital fund Owl Ventures and included Balderton Capital, Northzone, Nordic Makers, EduCapital, Entangled Group and private investor David Helgason.

Labster offers more than 70 software simulations of research labs that allow students to learn practical skills in a range of specialist fields related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (the STEM subjects) without the need for expensive physical equipment.

The funding will help Labster expand its content with a focus on new virtual labs that engage students in STEM-related areas. It also intends to expand headcount in areas like customer support and sales.

Labster closed a $10m series A round in September 2017 that was led by Balderton Capital and backed by Northzone and David Helgason, after raising $4m from government-owned investment vehicle Innovation Fund Denmark the year before.

Nordic Makers, EduCapital and Entangled Group were identified by the company as follow-on investors in the latest round.
